737,465. Fireplaces. WARMINGTON, W. E., REFF, G. R., and WALLER, C. A. Aug. 17, 1953 [June 4, 1952; Dec. 29, 1952], Nos. 14085/52 and 32843/52. Class 126. [Also in Group XIII] A method for minimizing the drawing of warmed air up the chimney flue of a domestic fireplace from the room in which the fireplace is located comprises the introduction of a stream of air from outside the room to a zone at or near the smoke throat of the fireplace. In the fireplace shown air is drawn from under the floorboards of the room (air may enter this space from outside through an airbrick) and passing through ducts 12, 11 enters the smoke throat 16 under the control of the damper 14 and thence, with the products of combustion arising from the fire source 17, passes up the chimney. The fire back 6 of the fireplace is surrounded by a space 7 which receives air from a duct 3 under the hearth 2 and passes it to a chamber 8 formed in the fireplace front from which it issues in a warm state into the room through slots 9. The duct 3 has inlets 4 also in the room, thus when a fire is burning in the grate a means is provided for continuously circulating the air in the room and heating it in the passageways in the fireplace.
