Abstract
833,457. Heating air. FAUSER, H. Aug. 14, 1956 [March 23, 1956], No. 24828/56. Class 64(3) An open fireplace located in a room incorporates at least one air-heating chamber a fresh air inlet to which is disposed above the outlet so that air flow through the chamber takes place in a direction contrary to that of natural thermal convection and only, when there is a partial vacuum in the room. In the form shown, the space between the back of the fireback 12 and a partition 10-11 and between the fireback side walls and side members 3, 4 defines the air heating chamber the inlet to which may be controlled by a damper 15. Fresh air from an external source after passing through the air heating chamber enters pockets in the side members 3, 4 which communicate with ducts 17, 18 (Fig. 2) directing the heated air into the room. A damper 16 may be provided at the flue outlet throat and a further damper 14 (Fig. 4) controls the flow of combustion air to the grate. The fireplace is constructed of prefabricated elements 1-7. A further form is described in which air flows through heating passages formed in the fireplace throat before entering the down-flow heating chamber formed around the fireback.
