Abstract

900,622. Fire grates. THOMAS, O. E. March 28, 1961 [Dec. 29, 1959], No. 44158/59. Class 126. [Also in Group XIII] An open fireplace grate unit comprises tubes forming a grate B, rear and side wall screens C, D and a flue inlet screen E extending from a header A at the front of the grate. A fan G, which may be outside the room to be heated, passes air through header A, and the tubes to the outlet ends which engage holes in a plate F above the fireplace. The header A has outlets R controlled by a damper L to pass air beneath the grate B to start the fire. The unit is supported at the back by a plate H welded to the tubes, and at the front by a conventional ashspace air damper frame K<SP>1</SP>. The damper L is so arranged that the inlet to the air heating tubes are closed as the outlets R beneath the grate are opened, Fig. 4, and vice versa.
