[Also in Group XIII] A liquid fuel heating appliance for standing in a domestic fireplace has means through which combustion products are discharged either into the fireplace and thence into the chimney, or directly into the chimney, and means movable between one position in which substantially all the combustion products are directed through the discharge means and a second position in which substantially all the combustion products are directed through outlet means opening into the room in which the appliance stands. As shown, Fig. 3, the stove 2 has interior walls 6, 7 forming a duct 9 through which combustion products pass via a pipe 11 to the chimney 16, the outlet 12 for the combustion products being controlled by a damper 14 movable between an open position, and a closed position in which it acts as a heat reflector, and retainable in one or more intermediate positions. Air enters the stove through a grille 17 below the burner 1, becomes heated during passage between the wall 7 and the back wall 5 of the stove and enters the room through a grille 18. A fuel tank may be housed in a lateral extension of the stove casing. In a modification, the back wall 5 is omitted and the combustion products after passing down the duct 9 enter a pipe within the duct which leads through a sealed opening in the wall 7 to the chimney 16. Air entering the grille 17 passes between the wall 7 and the back of the fireplace.
