Abstract

782,527. Open fireplaces. BOYES, W. March 21, 1956 [March 22, 1955], No. 8237/55. Class 126 [Also in Group XIII] The fire space a and the lower part of the back flue b<SP>1</SP> of a down draught fireplace or stove are each enclosed on four sides by a boiler B. The space above the fire is open at the front and separated from the upper part of the back flue by a vertical plate b'. The boiler B extends down to the level of the bottom of the grate a<SP>1</SP> and an ashpit below it is closed at the front by a cover C extending over the front of the boiler and having an air inlet damper plate c to allow the grate to be operated with an updraught. Pivoted dampers D, D<SP>1</SP> operated by cams on a shaft with a handle d' close the front space and open the rear flue or vice versa. Uprights b<SP>6</SP> form a frame to the front opening and carry lugs b<SP>5</SP> to support a plate to reduce the front opening. The side cheeks a<SP>4</SP> of the fireplace may be formed as reflectors to throw the heat forwardly.
