Combined open fireplaces and cooking- stoves; boilers, arrangement of. - An open fireplace, or a combined open fire-place and cooking-stove, is provided with a boiler 4 of upright form behind the brick back or cove plate 6, together with flues 7, 8 in front and in rear of the boiler, the flues being in direct communication with the grate at their lower ends. The flues may communicate over the top of the boiler and have a common dampercontrolled outlet, but they are preferably provided with separate outlets 13, 14 as shown, in which case they may be controlled by a damper or dampers allowing alternate use of the flues. The damper 16 shown controls the outlets 13, 14 and the outlet 17 above the fire. The boiler is provided with a flue 10 leading to the back flue 8; alternatively, an arched flue in the bottom of the boiler, or a plain boiler raised above an inclined plate at the rear of the grate to form a flue beneath it, may be employed. In each case the flue slopes downwardly to the grate to avoid lodgment of ashes in it.
