Abstract
867,142. Heating air. FEDERATED FOUNDRIES Ltd. Sept. 29, 1958 [Oct. 1, 1957], No. 30713/57. Class 64(3) A convector open fire comprises a base 1 with downwardly extending side and rear supporting flanges 2, 3 having openings 2a, 3a therein so that air passing below the base from an inlet at the front may flow through said openings into convector air heating passages 11 formed between the back and sides of an inner casing 4 defining the firebox 6 and ash receiving chamber 5, and an outer casing 12 preferably of sheet metal. The heated air passes upwardly into a chamber 14 and is discharged there from through a grille 15. Combustion gases pass out of the firebox 6 through a restricted throat 10 which extends through the air heating passage and is controlled by a damper 24 which in the form shown is operatively connected the lower end of the grille itself hinged at its upper edge. A handle 26a serves to effectsimultaneous operation of the grille 15 and damper 24. A set screw 27a is provided to limit the closure movement of the grille and hence of the damper when necessary. Heat conducting ribs 49 extend from the firebox and ash chamber structure into the air heating passages.
