Abstract

655,381. Heating air. C.U.R.A. PATENTS, Ltd. July 3, 1947, No. 17526. [Class 64(iii)] [Also in Group XI] A movable open fireplace unit adapted to be installed in a wall recess, comprises a metal-cased, firebrick-lined firebox 10 provided with vertically slidable firebars 30, an upwardly converging metal hood 11 of which the wide lower extremity communicates with the top of the firebox, and a flue member 12 communicating with the narrow upper extremity of the hood and the throat of the fireplace recess into which it is inserted through a register'plate 24 which closes the throat so as to prevent air passing up the chimney on the outside of the flue member. Attached to the exterior of the sides of the firebox and hood are laterally projecting metal fins 33 which, with the back and sides of the firebox and hood; become heated and thereby serve to heat air passing from the room round the metal casing, the heated air returning to the room. A damper 34 is provided in the upper part of the hood 11. In a modification, instead of metal fins 33 a metal facia plate, formed of a front portion, with louvres in the upper part, and rearwardly extending side walls, is secured to the front of the firebox and hood so as to surround closely the front opening of the unit. The plate may be detachably or non-detachably affixed to the unit. Specification 162,403, [Class 126], is referred to.
