Abstract

454,231. Open fireplaces. BELL & CO., Ltd., A., and JELLEY, M., Kingswell Works, Kingswell Street, Northampton. March 25, 1935, No. 9223. [Class 126] An open fireplace comprises a solid fuel-supporl 10 formed of one or more fireclay or like blocks, e one-piece firebrick back 13, and a separate fire brick member 15 of simi lar shape to the back and fitting into the fireplace setting in spaced relation behind it to form a flue 14, to which flue the combustion products may pass by an opening 12 in the back 13 immediately above the fuel support. The back 13 may be integral with the side cheeks, or be supported on rearwardly-extending shoulders formed near the bottom of their rear faces. As shown, the back 13 and member 15 may be formed with a forwardly-projecting elbow 16 near the top, and the flue 14 may be controlled by a hinged or sliding damper 18 at its upper end and operated by a handle 19 concealed behind the fireplace surround.
