Abstract

674,040. Open fireplaces. SWAN, I. Feb. 2, 1950 [June 9, 1948], No. 15538/48. Class 126 [Also in Group XIII] An open fireplace comprises a box-shaped casing open at the front with a firegrate arranged near the bottom, a hot-water boiler which is constructionally distinct from the casing being disposed in the casing at the rear and spaced from the top of the casing to form a flue leading to the flue opening in the closed top of the casing, and firebricks being arranged in the casing at the sides and rear. The casing which is open at the front has upper and lower firebricks 13, 14 above which, against the rear of the casing is disposed a hot-water boiler 17. This boiler 17 slopes upwardly and forwardly and is spaced from the top of the casing to form a flue 21 leading to the flue opening 22. Upper and lower firebricks are arranged against the sides of the casing and a firebasket 10 is placed on a firebrick 12 in the bottom of the casing. The casing may be secured to the wall by tiebolts 29 attached to lugs 30, embedded in concrete at the front of the fireplace opening and extending to a cross-bar 32 which bears against the rear 9 of the casing.
