A domestic fireplace is fitted with a back boiler f of sector or triangular form supported by uprights c<SP>1</SP> on a firebrick member c so that its curved or inclined face f<SP>1</SP> is spaced from a firebrick or block d<SP>1</SP> having a similarly curved or inclined face so as to provide an upwardly curved or inclined flue g, the remaining flat faces f<SP>2</SP>, d<SP>3</SP> of the boiler being respectively disposed vertically at the back of the fireplace and horizontally beneath the usual forwardly inclined fireback i. A metallic frame h may be arranged to provide a forwardly inclined flue h<SP>1</SP> into which the flue g delivers and which is controlled at its upper end by a damper h<SP>2</SP>.
