Abstract
532,335. Open fireplaces. HARRISON. Ltd., G. K., and MOLYNEUX, J. July 26, 1939, No. 21675. [Class 126] A fireplace or grate comprises a horizontal or sub. stantially horizontal fire grid or fret 5 removably supported on ledges 6 above a well or ash pit 4 permanently closed at the front and an auxiliary fireback 9 also resting on the ledges 6 is spaced away from the rear wall 2 of the fireplace to form a flue 10 open at its upper end and communicating with the ash pit at its lower end. The fire back 9 is prevented from falling forwardly by projections 12 on the sides of the fireplace. The upper parts of fireback 9 and rear wall 2 are inclined forwardly. A tapering throat 15 is mounted above the fireplace and extends into the chimney. Part of the air entering at the front of the fireplace is drawn through the fire into the well 4 and then passes through the flue 10 to mingle with the gases rising from the fire. According to the Provisional Specification the opposing surfaces of the flue 10 may be formed with flutings of semi-circular section.
