[Class 126] Across the firebrick back c of a well-grate is provided an upwardly directed chamber h open at its lower end above the rear part of a plain well-grate bottom a and opening at its upper end into the fire-space against the face of a forwardly inclined baffle d at the upper end of the back, the upper opening being considerably above the normal fuel level of the fire so that air is drawn down through the fuel on the grate to the back and bottom of the fire and into the lower end of the chamber. The chamber is formed between the back c and a false back f carried in recesses at the sides of the fireplace, or is formed in a member fitted against the back of an existing grate. A vertical rib may be provided between the back c and false back f, and the latter may have a forwardly extending ledge l at its lower end.
