Abstract
591,977. Hot-water boilers. DENNISON, W. E. May 7, 1945, No. 11609. [Class 64 (i)] [Also in Group XI] An open fireplace has a grate 2, flue casing 3, and boiler 1, the boiler consisting of a horizontally disposed water way 7 connected by a number of vertical water columns with an upper horizontal water way 10, the combustion gases passing partly between the water way 7 and the stool 8, and partly between the water way 7 and the plate 11, and then up the vertical flueways formed by the water columns. The upper current of gases causes air to pass through the top of the fire which accordingly burns brightly. A combined breast plate 14 and damper 15 may be moved to close the passage at .the base of the boiler flue nozzle 16, to reduce heating of the boiler, the gases passing in front of the breast plate 14 and through the flue passage 18. The area of the gas passage below the water way 7 is preferably greater than that of the passage above it. The pipe connections are provided behind the readily removable firebrick cheeks 22. A gas ignition burner 23 and ashpan 27 are provided. In a modification, the plate 11 may be replaced by an additional horizontal water way between the lower and upper ones 7, 10.
