Class 126 In a back to back grate provided with a chamber directly below the oven and open only at the front, and extending downwards beyond the fire bars to the ashpit, according to the parent Specification, a transverse baffle is provided to cover the front of the opening between the bottom of the oven and the fire bars. The oven d of a back to back grate is heated by a fire in space a, which also heats a boiler c. The top of a hot air chamber i is formed by the bottom of the oven, and the back and bottom of the chamber form a continuous incline j terminating at the bottom of the ashpit h. There is no through passage for the gaseous products of combustion below from the firebox below the oven to the flue. A baffle k of metal, which may be protected by a firebrick closes the front of the hot air chamber i below the oven, and serves to prevent coal and cinders falling over the rear of the firebars. The baffle may be formed by a continuation of the oven back.
