Class 126 A fireplace is provided with a main ashpan 13 and a subsidiary ashpan 16 into which the ashes from the pan 13 are displaced by a scraper 18 having a handle 19, the pan 16 being removable by means of a handle 17. In a modification, the subsidiary pan 26, Fig. 2, forms a segment of the front 15 of the fireplace, and pivots on trunnions 23.
