Abstract

778,586. Dampers; baffles. LATHE & CO., Ltd., C. Jan. 10, 1956, No. 763/56. Addition to'738,849. Class 126 In an adjustable throat unit for a fireplace comprising a metal frame mounted between the fireplace and the lower end of the chimney and having a baffle pivotally mounted on the frame so that it can be moved to and retained in any one of a number of positions, as described in the parent Specification, the baffle rests on the side walls of the frame in the position of minimum opening. The frame 10 is of U-shape in plan, open at the front, a flange 12 seating on the back and sides of the fireback. The side walls of the frame slope downwardly to the front, and a baffle 18 is.pivoted in lugs 16 carried by the side walls of the frame. A notched quadrant 21 depending from the frame engages a finger on a handle 24 to hold the baffle 18 in a number of positions. In the position of minimum opening the baffle 18 rests on the. side walls of the frame 10. An adjustable plate 28 enables the baffle 18 to fit as closely as possible behind the fireplace surround, and a retaining loop 26 on one of the bearing lugs 16 retains the baffle against accidental displacement.
