Abstract
870,929. Open fireplaces. STATON, T. C. April 12, 1960 [July 18, 1959], No. 24738/59. Class 126. The surround 10 of a solid fuel open fireplace extends around all sides of the fire opening 13, a grate 20 being supported at the base of the opening and an ash pan 17 being located, by lugs 21, below the grate 20 and behind the lower part of the surround. The grate 20 and a front fret 29 are supported by a frame 24 resting on a ledge 23 near the top of the ash space 16. The grate is preferably made in two parts and the fireback 30 and cheeks 31 may be as shown or a unitary casting. Combustion air enters through a damper controlled aperture 27. The surround is tiled and has a frame 12 defining the opening 13. According to the Provisional Specification, the ash pan is supported by means of a flange at its upper edge which rests on the ledge 23 and has holes in its upper part through which combustion air passes to the grate.
