734,706. Fireplaces. NORTH THAMES GAS BOARD. May 17, 1954 [Feb. 17, 1953], No. 4445/53. Class 126. The rear part of the flue opening of a fireplace with a firebrick back 1 and side cheeks is closed by removable refractory blocks 5 resting on ledges formed on the forwardly and upwardly sloping top edges of the side cheeks, and the front part of the flue opening is controlled by a damper 9 pivotally mounted on a frame 6 resting on the ledges. The damper 9 is mounted in slots 7 and a second plate 11 pivotally mounted in slots 8 is swung forwards against the surround 4. The ledges are preferably formed by moulding a recess in the edges of the side cheeks.
