Abstract
641,499. Open fireplaces. MITCHELL RUSSELL, & CO., Ltd., and PRESTON, T. B. Oct. 31, 1947, No. 29184. [Class. 126] An open fireplace is provided with a trivet adapted to be positioned either above the firespace to reduce the rate of combustion or in front of the firespace and a firebrick across the front of the firespace for storing heat and radiating heat to the trivet when in front of the firespace. The trivet 12 may rest in front of the firespace on a frame 11, the lower part of which is covered by a vertical plate 8 having an adjustable aperture for supplying air beneath a grate 5. The firebrick 17 is disposed across the front of the firespace in order to radiate heat to the trivet 12 when resting on the frame 11. Combustion of fuel on the grate 5 may be reduced by raising the trivet 12 into a position above the firespace, the sides of the trivet resting on supports 18 on the side walls of the firespace and front legs 21 of the trivet 12 resting in a ledge 14 at the rear part of the frame 11. A shaking grate 6 is provided beneath the grate 5.
