Class 126 A draught regulator for use with an open fireplace comprises a carrier plate adapted to be fixed across the upper part of the open front of the fire space, and carrying a horizontal baffle on which a slidable damper is mounted for co-operation with the upper part of the fireplace back to control the size of the chimney throat. The carrier panel 1, which has a bowed portion 4 forming a canopy across the upper part of the fire space, is removably secured to the front of the fireplace by screws and clamping nuts 3. A baffle plate 5, extending nearly the full width of the fire space and halfway towards the fire back 6 is spaced from the carrier plate 1 by a slot 8, the width of which can be varied by adjusting screws 13. A sliding damper 17, controlled by push-pull rod 18, moves in guides 16 and carries pins 20, Fig. 5, which move in slots 11 formed in the fixed baffle 5 to clear them of soot. An inverted trough 9 mounted on the underside of the fixed baffle 5 has slots registering with the slots 11 in 'the baffle plate. Clearances 21 are provided at the side of the baffle to allow an additional escape path for smoke when the damper is closed. In a fireplace with a back boiler, Fig. 9, the inspection plate 24 closing the front of the boiler flue 22 is forwardly inclined at its upper end to form an outlet 25 with its top edge level with the top of the fixed baffle 5. The sliding damper 17 can be partly closed so that the draught all passes round the boiler flue or adjusted so as to close the boiler flue, or to regulate the draught through the main fire space while leaving the boiler flue open. According to the second Provisional Specification the boiler flue may be made open to the fire space immediately above the boiler, the up-draught passage associated with it being closed by a substantially horizontal plate, and the open end of the flue above the boiler having a hit-and-miss damper mounted on the inspection plate and operated from the front of the inspection plate. In addition, a raised horizontal grill may be provided, forming the floor of the flue beneath the boiler, together with a rear vertical grill.
