Abstract

1,019,611. Underfed solid fuel stoves; air heating stoves. J. L. MARGETTS. Sept. 26, 1962 [Oct. 4, 1961], No. 36464/62. Headings F4S and F4W. The combustion chamber 13 of an underfed solid fuel stove is spaced from a casing 10 through which air to be heated is circulated by a fan 24. The fire-pot 35, mounted in the refractory bottom 17 of the combustion chamber, is connected by a duct 40 to a hopper 12 from which fuel is fed by a screw 42. Air from a blower 46 is fed to an enclosed space below the fire-pot 35 and to a downwardly directed jet 56 above the fire-pot. Openings 50 in the duct 40 allows some of the air to enter the fuel duct, to prevent smoke flowing back to the hopper 12. A part 34 of the feed screw of reduced diameter forms a plug of fuel in the duct and helps in reducing the back flow of smoke. Dampers 57, 58 regulate the flow of air to the jet 56 and the fire-pot 35 respectively. The outside surface of the combustion chamber has fins formed by channel members secured to it, and the lower part has a heat resistant lining 62. This lining 62 is of material of different heat expansion properties from the stove body so that it wrinkles in use to further protect the combustion chamber wall. A dust trap 67, Fig. 6, hinged so that it may be lifted to drip flue dust into the combustion chamber, is mounted on the wall to cover the flue outlet 65. In a modification, Fig. 7 (not shown), the feed screw drive and the fuel hopper are mounted on opposite sides of the combustion chamber.
