Abstract
1284450 Fluid heaters R R JONES 23 April 1970 [6 June 1969] 28773/69 Heading F4S In an oil fired air heater comprising a horizontal combustion chamber 5 of pear-drop cross-section located within a rectangular casing 6, the combustion chamber is provided with a full width baffle 14 which stops short of the chamber end 7 remote from the burner unit to define a return flow path for the combustion gases. The burner unit is located in a tube 9 serving to support the chamber 5 as does a further tube 10 provided with an explosion door 11 and an inspection window 12. The combustion gases leave the chamber by ways of ducts 16 and pass through parallel flue tubes 17, 20 of oval or flattened crosssection into a collecting box 18 and hence to a stack (not shown). Air to be heated, delivered to the inlet opening 24 by a fan arranged in the lower part of the casing, passes upwardly over the outer surface of the combustion chamber and flue tubes before finally exiting through a hot-air outlet 28 from whence it is distributed to a place of use. The underside of the baffle 14 is covered with refractory material 15. The heater can be used for heating fluids other than air.
