Abstract

The chimney forms a hood over the hearth and incorporates an extension which forms a back (5) to the hearth. Behind this is a space in which room air is heated directly by the fire. A fan (9) mounted under the ash pit (8) circulates air through this space. A damper (2) at the upper end of the chimney can be shut to prevent downflow of outside air when there is no fire lit. The backplate (5) of the hearth, the grate (7) and the upper cross piece (3) of the hearth which supports the chimney hood (1) are all made of refractory stainless steel sheet.
