1,274,411. Incandescent gas fires; air heating stoves. MATHEW SWAIN (FAILSWORTH) Ltd and UTAH LAVALITE Inc. 19 April, 1971 [6 Jan., 1970], No. 603/70. Headings F4S and F4W. An incandescent gas fire comprises a combustion chamber 7 heated by burners 6, with a refracting grate 9 supporting imitation solid fuel formed of lumps of lightweight, porous, silica based material of the pumice or scoria type, preferably featherock. A passage 4 behind the combustion chamber and insulated from it by a refractory lining 8, 11 has an upper front wall 13 with pins 12 leading to a heat exchanger 16 to provide convection air from outlets 15. A second grille carrying lumps of material and sloping upwardly and forwardly, or a sloping solid refractory baffle may be mounted above the bed of imitation fuel.
