Abstract
804,033. Air or other gas heating stoves. BRYDEN, J. April 3, 1957 [Jan. 1, 1957], No. 38/57. Class 64(1) In an air or other gas heating furnace having banks of horizontal tubes A in which the air or other gas is heated, arranged to form a roof L and side walls M of a heating chamber and in which a firegrate G having refractory side walls H is incorporated, the firegrate side walls are raised in height by hollow extensions N through which air is circulated. The heating chamber may be located over, as shown, or to the rear of the firegrate. The firegrate extension N preferably comprises an arrangement of metal tubes as shown in Fig. 1. These tubes may be circular or oval in cross-section and adjacent tubes may touch one another or be spaced apart by distance pieces C such as shown in Fig. 2. The hot gases from the firegrate pass into the heating chamber, around and between the tubes A, downwardly to ducts E disposed under the side tube banks and extending from the front to the rear of the furnace, and thence to flues F. Air or other gas to be heated flows from an inlet Q formed in the furnace casing P and after passing through the tubes flows to a rear chamber from which it is withdrawn by a fan.
