Class 64(1) In an air heating stove, a hollow top defining a chamber 20 in which air is heated is supported above the combustion space 10 by at least two spaced tubular posts 12 constituting air ducts the upper end of which communicate with the chamber 20 and the lower ends of which extend below the combustion space to a further air chamber. In the form shown the air heating chamber 20 is of conical shape and has an inner wall 14a providing a central passage for combustion gases, leading to a flue 16, a damper 17 being provided. A duct 23 surrounds the flue 16 and defines therewith an air heating passage 25 which communicates at its lower end with the chamber 20 and from which the heated air is conducted to one or more points of use. Fins are provided on the air side of the wall 14a and the flue 16. -The posts 12 communicate at their lower ends with a hollow box-like member which supports the posts and itself rests upon a base member 42. Two chambers 26, 38 formed in the hollow box-like member, are interconnected through an opening in which a fan 40 is disposed. Air is drawn by the fan 40 into the chamber 38 through an opening 43 in the floor and/or through adjustable louvres 44 in the side wall of the chamber. From the chamber 38 the air is blown by the fan into the chamber 26 and through the posts 12 in which it receives some heat from the fireplace, to the heating chamber 20 and thence through the passage 25 leading to the distribution points. The combustion space is bounded by four walls 11 each formed of sheet metal and having a large panel therein formed of strips of transparent glass mounted in a frame. One of the panels may be hinged to permit access to the combustion space. Liquid, solid or gaseous fuel may be burned. A further form in which one wall of the fire space is formed by an air duct of rectangular cross-section is described. An auxiliary (preferably electric) air heater may be arranged in the passage 25 to supplement the fire heat or to provide heat before the fire is lit. It is stated that the fan 40 may be arranged to draw air downwardly through the posts 12 so that heated air enters the room from the base of the heater.
