Abstract
1488479 Gas fires; burners UNITED GAS INDUSTRIES Ltd 3 Oct 1974 [6 Sept 1973] 41932/73 Headings F4W and F4T A gas-fire comprises a radiant forming a firebed extending upwardly and rearwardly toward the back of the fire and supporting a non- combustible simultation of solid fuel, a gas burner located adjacent a frontmost edge of the fire-bed and adapted to direct flame upwardly and rearwardly so as to heat the fire-bed, and a heat-resistant glass door extending across the front of the fire. In the form shown, ceramic block radiants 39 are spaced from the ceramic fire-bed 38 to define a combustion chamber, and the burner 35 comprises a manifold extending across the fire and having a series of jets 37. A ceramic simulation 41 of logs, coke or coal is disposed above radiants 39. A heat exchanger 42 of the single, double or treble pass type is to provide exchange heat between the combustion products and a convection airflow. At the front of the fire a further burner (11, Fig. 1) extends across the fire to direct flame vertically into a combustion chamber between a radiant surface having radiant bars (14) and further radiants (15) simulating fire-bars. In another embodiment (Fig. 3), the fire-bed (60) has openings (61, 62) for front burners (63) and rear burners (64), and simulated logs (65) rest directly on the fire-bed (60).
