Abstract

1536338 Imitation solid fuel gas fires RICHARD BAXENDALE & SONS Ltd 13 June 1977 [11 June 1976] 24183/76 Heading F4W A gas fire comprises one or more radiant units 8 supported on a firebrick 90 to define a passage therebetween, a gas burner 7 to direct flames through the passage, pieces of artificial fuel 15 supported by the unit(s) 8, and a flue arrangement 6 including a duct 20 having an opening 28 through which air can pass to dilute the combustion products and a baffle 34 arranged to direct any back-draught in the duct 20 towards the opening 28. Air enters the opening 28 via openwork areas 4 of the sides of a casing 1 of the gas fire. A further baffle 35 prevents low pressure in duet 20 from affecting operation of the burner 7. The or each unit 8 is of inverted open channel-section, is made of ceramics or stainless steel, and is in two parts 11, 12 arranged at an angle. The part 11 is perforate whereas part 12 may be imperforate. The parts 11, 12 may alternatively be made in one piece from a perforated metal sheet, e.g. expanded metal. The gas fire is otherwise substantially as described in Specification 1,506,168.
