Abstract

1506168 Imitation solid fuel gas fires RICHARD BAXENDALE & SONS Ltd 28 Aug 1975 [31 Aug 1974] 38150/74 Heading F4W A gas fire comprises a gas burner 26 and hollow elongate radiants 27 supporting artificial solid fuel 39, the axis X of the burner being obliquely inclined to the horizontal at a lesser angle than the axis Y of each radiant 29 so that flames from the burner 26 are directed into contact with the back 28 of each radiant 27 to reduce flame spillage outside the radiants. In each radiant 27, the back 28 loosely supports three pieces 32, 33, 34, the back 28 having protrusions 30 and the pieces 33, 34 having slots 35 and protrusions 36. The fuel 39 is black-coloured ceramic material. Combustion products pass via a passage 48 into a two-part heat exchanger 40, 41, for heating air by convection, and thence via a duct 43. An opening 45 is provided in the duct 43 adjacent openwork areas 23 of the sides of a casing 20, to dilute the combustion products with air. Alternatively, diluting air passes via a passage (53, Fig. 7) into part 40 of the heat exchanger. The casing 20 has a front opening including a grille 22. A back boiler may be incorporated in the fire.
