Abstract
1,126,957. Air heating apparatus; incandescent gas fires. STOVES Ltd. 7 Feb., 1967 [17 May, 1966], No. 21868/66. Headings F4S and F4W. In a conventional convector gas fire comprising a burner unit 10 with radiants 11 and heat exchanger means, the rear wall of the outer casing is formed with an outward bulge 6 to house at least part of a heat exchanger chamber 13. The bulge 6 is dimensioned such that it may be accommodated in a conventional fireplace opening. A heat exchanger chamber 12 disposed above the radiants 11 communicates through an opening 16 with the adjacent chamber 13. Air is drawn into the gas fire through inlets in the bottom of the casing and in the lower region of the front wall 1 opposite the radiants 11. A proportion of the intake air mixes with the combustion products and passes through the chambers 12, 13 to exit through a flue opening 14 in the bulge 6. Arrows 30 indicate the flow direction of the combustion products and of air mixed with or to be mixed with said products. The remaining proportion of intake air, whose flow direction is indicated by the arrows 31, is guided over the hot surfaces of the chambers 12, 13 and discharges through a louvre 32 in the front wall 1. A pair of legs 34 together with a leg 35 support the fire.
