[Class 64(iii)] A stove or fireplace having a metallic fire back 12 forming the front wall of an air heating chamber open below the level of the fireplace to an air inlet duct 15 and communicating above with a hot air duct leading to an outlet 8, and having a fan 16 fitted in the system, is characterized in that the air heating chamber is divided into parallel ascending air passages by vertically disposed transversely grooved or corrugated metal plates 1, conductively connected to the fireback and extending to the rear wall 5. In the form shown, the ascending air passages communicate with a descending duct 14 formed between the wall 5 and an outer casing 6. The inlet duct 15 is divided into parallel undulating passages by the provision of corrugated plates 3, similar to plates 1 but with the corrugations vertically disposed. The air heating chamber may be extended at the sides of the fireplace to form communicating air spaces which may be fitted with corrugated plates similar to plates 1 and 3, the corrugations being either vertically or horizontally disposed. The metallic fireback and/or the sides of the firechamber may be fitted with heat conducting ribs, corrugations or projections 4 and the lower part of the fireback may be protected by firebrick. The fan may be fitted in either the inlet duct 15, the outlet duct 14, the outlet connection 8, or above the ascending air passages 13.
