Abstract

The heat exchanger forms the hearth and back (26) of the fireplace and is raised to provide a space (18) underneath for incoming external air, (17). This air passes upward into the space formed by the hollow plate construction of the exchanger. This hollow space has sinusoidal baffles (8, 9) positioned so that the air passage alternately narrows and expands. The air passes through perforations in the baffles, is heated and rises through the similarly constructed fire back. The heated air is finally discharged into the room through ducts (7) in the side of the fireplace.
