Abstract

1317566 Space heating appliance UNITED GAS INDUSTRIES Ltd 25 Sept 1970 [27 Sept 1969] 47639/69 Heading F4S Combustion products of a convector fire heated by gas, oil or other fuel, are exhausted from the combustion chamber or firebox 2 via a heal exchanger 7, 8 for heating air flowing thereover to heated air outlets 13, 14 of an outer casing 1, the heat exchanger having a flue outlet 10 aligned with an inlet so as to provide an unobstructed straight-line path to outlet for the flue gases. A fan may be provided to increase the flow of heated air and also to assist the supply of combustion air to the burners 5. Air enters the casing 1 via rear openings 6 which may alternatively be located in the front or bottom of the casing. The firefront may be closed by a transparent heat-resisting panel or by a panel representing the effect of a log or coal fire including a moving- flame effect. The fire opening is bounded by heat reflector plates 4. The apparatus may include a back boiler. The heat exchanger may be spaced from the combustion chamber or firebox 2 so that air circulates over both sides of the heat exchanger (as shown) through passageways 11, 12. Or the heat exchanger may be in contact with the combustion chamber or firebox.
