Abstract

1328543 Water heaters IMI SANTON Ltd 7 Dec 1971 [15 Sept 1970] 43992/70 Heading F4A A water heater comprises a chamber 2 in which hot combustion products from a burner 8 having vertically spaced apart gas-jets 13 are directed transversely across at least one water carrying tube 14 arranged in a vertical position or in a position inclined to the vertical; the burner extending alongside the tube(s). The gas burner 8 receives primary air, blown by a fan (not shown) into inlet 5, from the space 4 defined between the chamber casing 1 and an outer casing 3; secondary air enters the inner casing through holes 6. Fins 16 are mounted on the tube(s) and extend to the side walls of the casing 1 in order that combustion gases from the jets 13 either contact the fins or approach close to them as they pass to flue outlet 15. To increase the temperature differential the water tube and burner may be placed closer together toward the top of the chamber, or the heat output of the jets may be increased toward the top of the burner.
