Abstract

An open hearth suitable for burning logs has a back plate (7) mounted behind the hearth. On the back plate may be a back boiler (10) mounted inside the flue (4). The front of the back plate supports a sliding plate (9) which extends over the whole width of the hearth, so that the draft to the flue may be regulated. The sliding and fixed plates may easily be fitted to existing chimneys, after pre-fabrication, and assist in achieving complete combustion for the fuel and high efficiency.
