[Also in Division A2] A prefabricated sheet metal fireplace construction comprises a solid-fuel burning firebox, having a draught opening 23 in the rear portion 22, and a smoke chamber 28 surmounting the opening 23 and connected at its upper end to a flue pipe 32 provided with a secondary sleeve 36 forming a conduit 37, Figs. 2 and 3. The fire-box front portion 20 has secondary walls 41, 42, 43 and 44 forming intercommunicating air passageways around the fire-box; spaced outwardly from these walls are further walls 52, 53, 54 and 55, the space between being filled with glass fibre blanketting 56. A baffle plate 101 is provided spaced from the fire-box rear wall forming an air passageway 102. The draught opening 23 is adjustable by means of a slidable damper plate 83 spaced from the fire-box top wall forming an air passageway. An outer casing 64 comprising side walls 61 and front and rear walls 62, 63 surrounds the fire-box rear portion 22 and the smoke chamber 28, the base being open to the exterior and the top connected to a sleeve 78 surrounding the upper portion of the flue pipe and sleeve 36. An access door 110 is provided in the rear wall 24 of the smoke chamber 28, and a removable panel in the wall 63 of the casing 64. A perforated flue cap 120 fitted to the top of the sleeve 78 directs some air into the flue opening 122 the remainder escaping through perforations 123. In operation, waste gases rise through the opening 23 into the smoke chamber 28 and the flue pipe 32, which they leave via the flue opening 122. Smoke passing the damper plate 83 causes a partial vacuum in the associated passageway and heated air is drawn from the front portion of the fire-box. Cool air enters the casing 64 at the base and circulates in the passageways about the fire-box, the smoke chamber and the flue pipe. The parts of the construction may be made of aluminium coated steel.
