Abstract
570,031. Gas-Bred reheating furnaces. PRIEST, C. F. Jan. 4, 1944, No. 127. [Classes 51 (i) and 51 (ii)] A gas-fired reheating furnace having a recirculating system for the products of combustion is provided, below the hearth 18, with a series of transverse combustion chambers 17 fired by burners 19 disposed alternately along the opposite sides of the furnace and communicating with vertical flues 24 disposed in the side walls of the heating chamber 11, these flues delivering to roof cavities 14 from which the gases pass through openings 15 downwardly into the heating chamber to outlet passages 30 communicating with a horizontal collecting flue 29 from which they are delivered by a fan 34, Fig. 3, to side return flues 26 having connections 27, each controlled by a damper 28, to the ends of the combustion chambers opposite the burners. The fan 34 is driven by a motor 36 and valve-controlled vents 39 are provided in the return flues 26 to enable surplus gases to be passed to atmosphere. Gases may also be passed from the collecting flue 29 direct to a stack through a flue 40 fitted with a damper 41. The charge 37 is carried on a bogie 38.
