Abstract

1281504 Heating continuous furnaces SCEI SOC COSTRUZIONI ELETTROTERMICHE INDUSTRIALI 12 Jan 1970 [10 Jan 1969] 1484/70 Heading F4B A system for heating a channel in a single channel or a multiple channel continuous furnace which is used for the firing or baking of ceramic products, the ceramic products being passed intermittently through the furnace in a shallow layer (less than 30 cm.), includes means for heating the channel arranged on the furnace arch, to means comprising a free flame not directed against the charge material under treatment, and means for heating preheating zones of the channel with products of combustion produced outside the furnace, adjusted to desired conditions of volume, temperature and pressure. As shown, the furnace comprises a series of trucks 3 which pass intermittently through the furnace, gas collecting chambers 9a-9d disposed in the roof of the furnace above the arch, the collecting chambers 9a-9c being above the preheating zones and the collecting chamber 9d above the firing and cooling zone, and apertures 10a-10d formed in the arch 2 to communicate the chambers with spaces 5 left free between the charges. In operation, gases from combustion chambers 19, 20 pass into collecting chambers 9b and 9c respectively, along with recycled gases from chambers 9a and 9d, before entering the furnace passage via apertures 10b and 10c. Burners 14 disposed in nitches 13 direct their flames parallel to the direction of movement of the material, in such a way as not to play upon them; the sloping end of the nitches directing the hot gases produced directly into the free spaces 5. A fan 17 draws cooling air into the lost section of the collecting chambers 9d.
