Abstract

1414619 Continuous heat treatment furnaces ACTRIC Ltd 16 Oct 1972 [27 Oct 1971] 49856/71 Heading F4B In a continuous heat treatment furnace having a preheating chamber 16 separated by a wall 15 from a treatment chamber 17, the latter is indirectly heated by radiant tubes 24 fired by burners 25, the former being heated directly by hot gases from the radiant tubes. Preheating chamber 16 is further divided into sections 20 and 21 by a wall 19, the front section 20 having a gas outlet 31 controlled by a sliding damper 32. Each radiant tube has an extension 26 formed with ports 27 and 28 controlled by a slide tube 29 actuated by a rod 30 so that hot gases enter either or both sections of the preheating chamber. The rod 30 may be operated by an electric or fluid motor subject to a control depending on the temperature of the preheating chamber. Some waste gases from the latter may be removed by pipe 34, cooled to precipitate water, mixed with fuel gas and pumped to the treatment chamber as atmosphere gas via space 37 between one of the radiant tubes and a sleeve 38. Workpieces may be conveyed through the furnace to a discharge shoot 13 by conventional means, e.g. a shaker or roller hearth, a walking beam conveyer or an endless conveyer.
