Abstract

974,758. Heat treatment furnaces. ZAVODY V. I. LENINA PLZEN NARODNI PODNIK. July 21, 1961 [Aug. 1, 1960], No. 26444/61. Heading F4B. A batch furnace contains inlet ports for admitting a protective gas into a treatment chamber having in its side walls parallel channels which are open towards the interior of the chamber and run from burners at the bottom of the chamber to outlet ports at the top. The combustion products from the burners are restrained to pass up the channels by the presence of the protective gas in the middle of the treatment chamber. As shown in Figs. 1, 2, the side walls 2, containing ceramic grooves 3, of parabolic cross-section, are shaped to form an arch. Combustion products pass from burners 6 via grooves 3 and outlet ports 15 into longitudinal ducts 8 and thence to a recuperator 24. Secondary combustion is caused in duct 8 by the injection of air through sloping ducts (not shown), and the heated air from the recuperator passes back to the burners 6. Protective gas is delivered into the furnace at the top via a pipe 12, a U-shaped preheating duct 10 and inlet ports 13 and at the bottom via pipes 20, longitudinal ducts 14 and vertical ducts 16 leading to inlets 17 in the furnace floor. The floor and one end wall of the furnace may be heated by combustion products from burners not shown, which pass through 'ducts 25 and up ducts 27. Fig. 6 shows a furnace with a brick floor 28 which is not heated.
