Abstract

602,385. Kilns. BUCHANAN & SON (LIVERPOOL), Ltd., J., and PAIN, J. B. Oct. 13, 1945, No. 26837. [Class 51(ii)] A kiln for heating, drying or calcining comprises vertical rotatable kiln pipes 20 each of which has a concentric gas and vapour withdrawal pipe with louvrecovered openings at intervals therealong, and groups of flues 29 disposed between and adjacent to said kiln pipes, each group of flues being heated by individually controlled gas burners. The main gas supply pipe 22 is controlled by a valve 23, the branch pipes 24 supplying groups of burners are each controlled by a valve 25 and each bunsen burner 26 is controlled by a valve 32. Secondary air is admitted at 27 and the combustion products pass to a chamber 28 and from thence through four openings 28a to four flues 29 connected at the tops by a chamber 30 connected to a single flue 31. Dampers (not shown) may be provided at 30a. The flues 31 are connected to a flue which conveys the gases to a waste-heat boiler, or preheater, on the way to the chimney. According to the Provisional Specification, burners adjacent to the upper ends of the pipes may be separately controlled for preliminary drying of the material.
