Abstract
1,022,142. Combustion chamber for lean gas. FOSTER WHEELER Ltd. Nov. 13, 1962 [Nov. 13, 1961], No. 42927/62. Headings F4B and F4T. In a furnace, Fig. 6 (not shown), for burning lean gas in a chamber 2 lined with refractory material 17, intimate mixing of the gas and air is achieved by supplying the gas and air to the chamber through separate oppositely inclined gas ports 6 and air ports 8, the products of combustion being discharged into a conduit 26. The inclined gas and air ports 6, 8 are arranged in concentric rings in the front end wall 5 of the furnace chamber 2, a ring of inclined gas ports 6 being disposed between two rings of oppositely inclined air ports 8. Air is supplied to the ports 8 through a trunk 31 which communicates with a chamber 7 extending through the thickness of the front wall 5. A further conduit 4 on the outside of the wall 5 supplies the gas to the ports 6. A branch conduit 9 leading from the trunk 31 supplies secondary air to a number of auxiliary burners 16 used for starting and located in the walls of the combustion chamber 2. A checker brick wall 21 is disposed within the chamber 2 and contains a number of channels 22 through which the burning gases pass. The conduit 26 carries the hot combustion gases to a heat recovery chamber, Fig. 7 (not shown), separate from the combustion chamber and containing a superheater 23, boiler 24 and economizer 25.
