Class 51(i) A steam-generator furnace comprises a verticallyextending furnace chamber, a steam-generating section and vertically-extending steam-generator tubes lining the walls of the furnace chamber a lower portion of which is divided into a plurality of refuse-burning cells 50, adjacent cells being divided by a combustion-air chamber 57 which supplies air to the cells through air inlet ports formed in refractory walls 68 of the air chamber the ports opening into the cells between upwardlyextending steam-generating tubes 51a which line the faces of the air-chamber walls on the cell sides thereof.
