Abstract

998,316. Regulating steam temperatures in boilers. RILEY STOKER CORPORATION. March 12, 1962 [March 14, 1961], No. 9389/62. Heading F4A. The steam-generating unit described is similar to that described in Specification 844,349, but is modified in that the recirculated gas which is used to regulate superheated steam temperatures is introduced into the furnace through openings located on the lower surfaces of abutments 19, 23 on the walls of the furnace. Water wall tubes 20 are bent back into groups of three lying in planes at right angles to the furnace wall to provide alternately burner openings 26 and recirculated gas openings 79. Adjustable vanes 85, 87 in the burner openings direct the air downwardly into the cell 28 while similar vanes 93 in the recirculated gas openings direct the recirculated gas upwardly. The resultant stratification has a blanketing effect which protects the tubes 20 from overheating and also serves to retain the particles of slag in the cell 28.
