Abstract

1,110,646. Shaft furnaces; burners. HARBISON-WALKER REFRACTORIES CO. 10 March, 1967 [26 April, 1966], No. 11452/67. Headings F4B and F4T. An elongate burner for use in a shaft kiln has a fuel chamber 26 surrounded by two communicating chambers 24, 25 forming a water jacket, the chamber 26 having ports 28 in communication with the outside of the burner. The kiln which is of oval-section has an inlet 10, outlet 11 and a refractory lining 14 within a steel shell 15 and is divided into three sections of which the centre section or burning zone has normal burners and elongate burners arranged alternately in both the vertical and horizontal sense. Combustion air is supplied to a plenum chamber 16 through an inlet 18.
