Abstract

692,391. Cyclone furnaces. POLLOPAS PATENTS, Ltd., and BURG, H. June 13, 1951, No. 14023/51. Class 51(i) A furnace of the type wherein fuel is injected into a combustion chamber of which the wall is provided with apertures for the admission of secondary combustion air or gas, the apertures being directed at an acute angle to the tangent to the internal surface of the combustion chamber so as to produce a rotating sleeve of secondary gas around the burner, is characterized by the provision over the external surface of the refractory wall of the combustion chamber of a hollow metal jacket through which a cooling fluid can be circulated, apertures or gaps being provided in or between the parts of the jacket corresponding in position with the outer ends of the secondary-gas inlet apertures. As shown in Fig. 1 a combustion chamber supplied with pulverulent fuel by a burner tube 5 is composed of three water-cooled sections 7, 8 and 9 lined with a refractory lining 17, secondary air being supplied by tangentially-directed apertures 10. The invention is also applicable to furnaces fired by liquid or gaseous fuel. Specification 692,392 is referred to.
