Abstract
980,818. Fluent fuel fired vapour generators. COMBUSTION ENGINEERING Inc. Nov. 30, 1962 [Dec. 13, 1961], No. 45335/62. Heading F4B. An apparatus and method for generating vapour comprises an elongated furnace 30 having tubes 30 lining its walls, a combustion gas outlet adjacent one end, and a vapour heater 40 over which the combustion gases pass, said method including introducing streams of air and fuel into the furnace at a region A remote from said outlet such that streams of air and fuel are directed at a tangent to two imaginary coaxial cylinders 61, 63. As shown, at the corner of the furnace which may be of any polygonal shape are arranged pairs of burner assemblies 56 which direct fuel and air to coaxial cylinders 61, 63. Each assembly is capable of being tilted (Fig. 4, not shown) in order to control to some extent the heat transferred to the fluid flowing through vapour heaters 40 &c. The burner assemblies may include oil burners and pulverized coal burners. If the furnace is of the wet-bottom type with molten slag collecting on the furnace floor (Fig. 5, not shown) the lowermost fuel nozzles of adjacent burner assemblies are supplied by separate fuel supply means.
