Abstract
1291085 Controlling furnace burners WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP 30 Oct 1969 [5 Nov 1968] 53210/69 Heading F4B The distribution of heat within an enclosure from a burner is controlled by using a first effect of the burner heat to control the amount of fuel supplied to the burner and the amount of air/inert gas mixture required to transport the fuel to the burner, and using a second effect of the heat at a point remote from the burner to control the amount of inert gas supplied so as to regulate the length of flame produced. The distribution of heat in a kiln 10 fired by a pulverulent fuel burner 12 is controlled by a computer 20 which regulates the amount of fuel fed to the burner through a rotary valve 16, the total amount of combustion air supplied through fan 24, and amount of recirculated waste gas supplied to the burner through fan 22 and damper 80, and the proportion of air fed to duct 86 as primary air and the proportion fed as secondary air. The fan 22 also supplies gas to a pulverizer 46. The air/waste gas ratio in the mixture used to feed the fuel to burner through duct 81, and the primary/secondary air ratio both affect the flamelength. The total amount of waste gas and air flowing in the duct 86, and the total amount of combustion air are controlled in accordance with the desired fuel supply. The arrangement may be applied to a boiler.
