Abstract

1500393 Burning powdery material at high temperature FIVES-CAIL BABCOCK 21 May 1975 [22 May 1974] 21952/75 Heading F4B An installation for burning powdery material comprises cyclone preheaters 1, 2, 3 and 4, a rotary furnace 12, a combustion chamber 14 and a material cooling apparatus 16. Air from the cooling apparatus 16 is supplied partly as secondary air for the burner 18 in the furnace 12 and partly as secondary air for the fuel injectors 28 in the combustion chamber 14. A valve 22 regulates the distribution between the furnace and the combustion chamber. Exhaust gases from the furnace 12 containing particles of material are fed tangentially into the combustion chamber 14 by the duct 26 and travel in a helical path along the wall of the chamber while secondary air from the duct 20 with fuel from injector 28 generates a flame along the centre of the combustion chamber 14. Combustion gases from the flame and the furnace exhaust gases mix at the outlet of the chamber 14 which is connected to the cyclone 4 by a square sectioned duct 30. At the instant of mixing the temperature of the combustion gases is relatively low so that there is no danger of melting particles of material in the exhaust gases or damaging the walls of the combustion chamber.
